A Prayer for Cities 

(or any city--just change the name)

This prayer has been developed for our Nation's Capitol but  can be changed for any city 

 

  1. You desire that Washingtonians to seek and find you. Acts 17:24

  2. Thank you for not being far from the people of Washington.  Acts 17:24

  3. Help them to be a people who live and move and have their being in you, God. Acts 17:2

  4. Washingtonians …repent and turn to God. Acts 17:24

  5. You destined Washingtonians to live in this city and we thank you for each person. Acts 17:24

  6. May the Lord show us His marvelous kindness in making Washington a strong city! Psalm 31:21

  7. May God grant that those of this city flourish like grass of the earth. Psalm 72:16

  8. May God deliver Washington’s  citizens out of their distresses. Psalm 107:7

  9. May God lead Washingtonians forth by the right way. Psalm 107:7

  10. May Washington be a place where glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God! Psalm 87:3

  11. Washington may God restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning.

  12. Washington we call you the city of righteousness, Isaiah 1:26

  13. Washington we call you the faithful city”. Isaiah 1:26

  14. Let Washingtonians cry out together in faith: “We have a strong city; God will appoint salvation for walls and bulwarks. Isaiah 26:2

  15. We cry out “Open the gates, that the righteous nation which keeps the truth may enter in. Isaiah 26:2

  16. Washingtonians who make God their refuge will inherit the land. Isaiah 57:13

  17. Let the citizens of Washington take refuge in You. Psalm 91

  18. Let our city, Washington, not be divided against itself Matthew 12:25

  19. Rescue Washington from every trap and protect us from the fatal plague.

  20. Let your truth be our shield and protection. Psalm 91

  21. Help us to not be afraid of the terror by night, or of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. Psalm 91

  22. Lord, make us a fortified city and an iron pillar, with bronze walls against drugs, theft, drunkenness, pornography, hate, violence, terror, and fear.

  23. May all the evildoers be cut off from the city of the Lord in Washington,D.C. Psalm 101:8

  24. Our enemies will fight against you God, but they shall not prevail against you. Jeremiah 1:18

  25. Be with us Lord, “to deliver Washington.” Jeremiah 1:18

  26. We wait for our city to have foundations, whose builder, and maker is God. Hebrews 11:10

  27. We ask you to appoint elders in our city who love you Lord. Titus 1:5

  28. Remove the confusion of idolatry off our city. Acts 19:28

  29. Jesus, weep over our city that Washington may know the day of their visitation. Luke 19:41

  30. Let the City of  Washington receive you and heal the sick here. Luke 10:8

  31. Let Washington know ‘The kingdom of God has come near to them.’ Luke 10:8

  32. Let the citizens of Washington proclaim throughout the whole city what great things Jesus has done for them! Luke 8:39

  33. Jesus, send your messengers throughout our city, to each neighborhood, and village preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. Luke 7:33
